La culture des lys

Les lys sont parmi les plus belles fleurs de nos jardins. Nous vous en offrons une grande variété que ce soit par la forme des fleurs, la période de floraison, les couleurs et les hauteurs.

PLANTATION

Le sol doit être bien drainé et bénéficier de 5 à 6 heures de soleil par jour. Lors de la plantation du bulbe, il faut éviter d'endommager ce dernier en compactant la terre trop fortement de manière à l'écraser. De même, il faut empêcher la création de poches d'air autour du bulbe en s'assurant qu'il est entièrement recouvert de terre. Une fois planté et fertilisé, il faut l'arroser copieusement sans le noyer. Quant à la profondeur, je vous recommande que le bulbe soit recouvert de 15 à 20 cm de terre. Enfin, la distance entre les bulbes peut être variable. Toutefois, nous recommandons un minimum de 15 cm pour permettre à l'air de bien circuler entre les plants afin de les assécher en période humide.

FERTILISATION

Utilisez un bon compost. Je vous recommande de procéder à un apport annuel de 2,5 cm à la surface du sol au printemps et une nouvelle fois à l'automne.

MALADIE

Il faut surveiller une maladie fongique : le botrytis. Cette maladie apparaît par temps humide. Il faut alors traiter avec un fongicide ( comme celui utilisé pour la tache noire du rosier). Sinon, c'est le jaunissement prématuré du feuillage qui survient. On le reconnaît par un halo brun clair sur les feuilles. À l'automne, il faut enlever les tiges et les débris atteints et le printemps suivant, il faut traiter très tôt les nouvelles tiges avec un fongicide. Cette maladie n’affecte pas le bulbe à moins qu’elle revienne année après année, car c’est le feuillage qui nourrit le bulbe.

INSECTICIDES : à BASE DE PYRÉTHRINE etc. ( ex. : Trounce pour cour et jardin, End-All, etc.) et de PERMÉTHRINE pour les grandes infestations (ex. : Ambush, etc..). Ils existent d'autres produits dans les commerces, demandez conseil sur le produit qui vous convient le mieux. Surtout lisez bien les instructions avant utilisation.

PLANTING

The soil must be well drained and receive from 5 to 6 hours of sunlight every day. When planting the bulb, care must be applied when compacting the soil, as too firm a compacting could end up crushing the bulb. Similarly, the formation of air pockets around the bulb can be prevented by ensuring that the bulb is entirely covered with soil. Once planted and fertilized, it must be copiously watered, though not to the point of flooding. Regarding depth, I would recommend that the bulb be covered with a layer of soil ranging from 6 to 8 inches thick. Lastly, the distance between the bulbs may vary. However, we recommend a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) so that there can be an adequate flow of air between the plants in order to dry them up during wet periods.

FERTILIZATION

Use adequate compost. I recommend an annual spread of 1 inch on the soil’s surface in the spring, to be repeated in the fall.

DISEASE

One fungal disease has to be watched for: the botrytis. This disease manifests itself during wet weather. Treatment must then be applied using a fungicide (such as the one used to treat rosebush black spots), otherwise it will cause a premature yellowing of the foliage. Light brown halos on the leaves are a clear sign of it. Affected stems and remains must be removed in the fall, and new stems have to be treated with a fungicide very early in the following spring. This disease does not attack the bulb unless seen reappearing year after year, since it is the foliage that feeds the bulb.
